Dr Jwan Kamla Speaks at Highways Leadership Forum
Data-led decisions are essential to achieving the 65% KSI reduction target by 2035.

The founder Dr Jwan Kamla was invited to speak at the Highways Leadership Forum on leading data. The event was held on 15 and 16 September 2026 and organised by Highways Magazine.

During her talk, she discussed leading and lagging data, her PhD research findings what does it mean in practice, and how she transferred research into practice.
She highlighted the advantages of connected vehicle data from various perspectives, not just road safety or harsh braking incidents.
She also presented insights from the road safety strategy.
Dr Kamla shared the current challenges and barriers, as well as opportunities for the government to take action and incorporate these into the road safety strategy and Standards.
In addition, Dr Kamla mentioned that with available data there are opportunities for further research.

Dr Kamla was invited to participate in a panel discussion. During the panel discussion, Dr Kamla explored additional factors that support data-led decision-making and inform road safety strategies.
In response to a question about supplier selection, she highlighted the importance of considering various factors from the available services, to identify the most suitable supplier and achieve the best value for money.
Furthermore, Dr Kamla discussed the challenges surrounding collisions involving young adults who have recently obtained their driving licences. She recommended introducing restrictions on newly qualified young drivers carrying passengers who are not family members for a specified period to help improve road safety..

Overall, a great discussion, and hopefully actions will follow in the coming years to best approach the road safety target of reducing KSIs by 65% by 2035.
